Yes. Springfield has a history museum. And no, we're not just saying that to be nice — it's actually really cool.
Curator Madeline McGraw dropped by the The Block Party 2025 to give us the full rundown, and she delivered. The Springfield History Museum pulls in about 3,000 visitors a year — split roughly 50/50 between locals and tourists — which, if you think about it, means half the people walking through those doors drove to Springfield specifically to learn about this place. That's not nothing.
When we talked to Madeline, the museum was running two exhibits: a celebration of the SUB's 75th anniversary and an Alaskan Native American Indian illumination exhibit. The building itself has a story worth knowing, and Madeline tells it well.
Oh — and every October, they transform the whole museum into a haunted house. This year's theme is Frankenstein. Madeline was already dressed as a ghoul when we found her at The Block Party, which tells you everything you need to know about her commitment to the bit.
If you've lived in Springfield for years and never made it through those doors, this is your sign. And if you're visiting from out of town — this is why people make the drive.
