We'll let you know what's happening!

Springfield Utility Board (SUB) will host a large-scale earthquake simulator at the upcoming Springfield Block Party on Friday, September 6, from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The “shaker” will be located in SUB’s parking lot on A Street and Pioneer Parkway East. It is free to festival goers and will offer an unforgettable experience for the entire community.

Several activities will be available:

Earthquake Simulator ("The Shaker"): Experience the world’s largest earthquake simulator, giving participants a realistic feel of seismic activity and raising awareness about the importance of preparedness.

Virtual Reality (VR) Earthquake Experience: Get immersed in a virtual reality simulation of an earthquake, providing a unique and interactive way to understand the impact of natural disasters.

Preparedness Product Fair: Explore a variety of emergency preparedness items on display, with SUB staff available to demonstrate essential products and provide checklists for creating your own emergency kits.

Giveaway: Festival goers can enter for a chance to win 3-day personal preparedness kits, perfect for starting or enhancing personal emergency supplies.

The event will also highlight how SUB has been enhancing its own preparedness efforts since the January ice storm, in advance of the coming winter season.

"Whether it’s an earthquake or an ice storm," said Jeff Nelson, SUB’s general manager, “being ready for the unexpected keeps people safe while crews respond.”

This event is free and open to the public. Join us at the Springfield Block Party for an evening of education, engagement, and preparedness, and take the first steps toward ensuring your safety and resilience in the face of natural disasters.
